Day 1-Getting started!

Well, my first day at work experience was....unique, to say the least. It was certainly not what I was expecting!

At about 9:30, I arrived at the office I thought I was going to be helping out in. But, no sooner had I arrived and settled down, James (my "boss") came in and said we were moving to a warehouse!
So, in a matter if minutes, me, James and 3 interns were carrying computer equipment in very windy weather to a very large warehouse.
This in itself was very unexpected, so imagine my surprise when James decided to put up a gazebo where we were working! It was very complicated, and took a team effort (the whole structure nearly fell on us), but eventually the gazebo was up. I had also been helping wiring the computers up to an internet router; the wires were tangled up like spaghetti!

After this, we had a little game; each of us had to tell the others 3 facts; 1 lie, and 2 true facts. I ended up being such a good liar, I even fooled myself into thinking I had said a lie! In reality, all of my facts were 100% true! We had lunch, and then got down to work.

James set us each a few assignments; my jobs were to design a few logos, and to do this blog! Later, we had an editorial meeting , about the magazine's contents. After the meeting, I got started with the logos; I experimented with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, both of which were extremely exasperating! However, despite the frustrating software, I managed to produce 2 logos, and a very well-received vector of a dragon!

What I learned today;
  • How to plug in a computer
  • How to use Photoshop and Illustrator
  • That Photoshop and Illustrator are annoying
  • How to build a gazebo
  • That the Archbishop of Canterbury is technically a university (I'm seriously not joking!)
My first day at work experience has been brilliant; strange, yet fun and also informative. I can't wait for tomorrow!
